EARLY ADMISSIONS
The Early Admissions Program is a special admission and enrollment program for academically-accomplished or vocationally-gifted high school juniors or seniors. These students may take college level academic or vocational classes at Kaua`i Community College if they have exhausted all appropriate advancement opportunities available through the high school.
As an Early Admissions applicant, you must:
List "SPEA" as your major on the UH System Application Form and submit it with the "Early Admissions Parent/School Approval Form" to our Admissions & Records Office. The form is available at your high school of attendance.
RUNNING START
Running Start is a statewide program that provides an opportunity for academically qualified juniors and seniors to enroll in college classes through the University of Hawai`i system as part of their high school coursework. This unique partnership between the Department of Education and the University of Hawai`i system allows public high school students to attend college classes during the fall, spring, and summer while earning both high school and college credits. Students should contact their high school counselor to see if they qualify and for more information.
Visit the Running Start web site.

Program Major Selection & Credit Load
Your selection of a program major is a very important decision and will determine your length of stay in the United States as well as your career goals. As an international student, you will be required to take a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester toward your program.
Before you may register for courses, you must:
Demonstrate proof of enrollment in a health and accident insurance plan before registration. This insurance is mandatory. The intent of this requirement is to protect international students against the high cost of unanticipated health care expenses resulting from accidents or illness. Additional information on student health insurance plans may be obtained from the student resources web site, or by contacting the Student Services Office at (808) 245-8212.
Housing & Transportation
The college does not maintain any dormitories or housing facilities. It is recommended that you make housing arrangements prior to your arrival on Kaua`i. Public transportation serving the island is limited. You will be responsible for arranging transportation to and from campus.
VETERAN OR DEPENDENT
If you are a veteran or an eligible dependent, you may be eligible for VA educational benefits. Forms for educational benefits are processed through our Admissions & Records Office or the Veterans Administration Office. Please contact the Admissions & Records Office at arkauai@hawaii.edu for more information.
SENIOR CITIZEN
You may attend classes as a "Visitor" without having to pay tuition and fees if you are a senior citizen who:
Grades or credits will not be recorded and your name will not appear on the instructor’s official class roster. Acceptance into classes is after the late registration period. Check the Academic Calendar for scheduled dates. This is to assure that others wanting to register for credit or to officially audit classes will have the opportunity to do so.
Visitor passes are issued for each course and may be obtained at the Admissions & Records Office after late registration.
If you are a new or returning visitor, you will need to complete an application form for residency determination purposes.
If you wish to register during the regular registration and late registration periods, you may do so but you must complete all registration procedures and pay full tuition and fees.
