FINANCIAL AID SCHOLARSHIPS
The college is not the only source of financial aid for students. There are several scholarships available to students from the college and from agencies outside the college. You may apply for as many scholarships as you can to reduce the amount that you will need to pay for college costs. The campus has three types of scholarships: 1) based on financial need where the FAFSA is required, 2) not so much based on need, based more on grades or other criteria, and 3) department or program scholarships.
1) To apply for need-based financial aid scholarships you will need to submit your FAFSA by the college's priority deadline of April 1st. Your Award Letter will inform you what need-based scholarships you qualify for. A scholarship application will be mailed to you with your Award Letter.
2) To apply for scholarships based more on grades than financial need you will need to complete the All-In-One Scholarship application by the March 31st deadline. You must remember to review and check all the boxes that you think you qualify for to receive full consideration for these scholarships.
3) To apply for the department or program scholarships, instructors distribute application forms in-class during the beginning of the term. Academic Departments such as: Culinary Arts, Nursing, Electronics, Automotive/Autobody, Hospitality, etc. will determine deadlines and distribute forms to program students.
The college receives notices from outside agencies and posts those under Non-Campus Scholarships. You may also conduct your own search using some of the recommended web sites. FAO has accumulated a list of possible Native Hawaiian Scholarships which you are welcome to review. If you find anything that you are interested in, contact the scholarship provider directly for an application.
Applying for scholarships can be a daunting experience. Prepare your career essary in advance and if you want, have someone proofread your work before you submit it to the committee. Stay organized and on top of the deadlines. If the scholarship requires a letter of recommendation, provide the writer time and a self-stamped envelope to mail the letter.
