Education Resources on the Web

  • Professional Development Collection
    This EBSCO database covers 515 full-text education journals. You need to use a barcode number from a current UH library card to log-in, if you are off-campus.

  • Electronic Resources for Education from UH Manoa
    Provides links to electronic journals, databases, indexes, and other resources in the field of Education. Some links are restricted to students registered in UH Manoa courses.

  • ERIC
    The Educational Resources Information Clearinghouse (ERIC)database is an index covering approximately one million articles and documents on education.

    There are two parts to the ERIC index: Educational Journals (EJ), which covers articles published in academic journals and Educational Documents (ED), which catalogs unpublished materials, such as conference proceedings, curriculum guides, and lesson plans. Most ED documents are available either through the ERIC website in pdf format or through interlibrary loan (for UH System students).

    The ERIC Thesaurus is a list of subject descriptors used to index all ERIC citations. Using descriptor terms to search the ERIC database will enhance the precision and speed of your searches.

    The full-text ERIC Digests contain valuable 1-2 page overviews and bibliographies on current educational topics.

  • Michigan Electronic Library-Education page
    This is a well organized site, providing links to current educational information. Links are categorized by educational topics, and by audience type. Includes links to sites on: Best Practices, Educational Leadership, Online Forums, and Education Clearinghouses.

  • Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education
    The ENC Online has a large database of K-12 curriculum materials, searchable by subject keyword, and by grade level.

  • Center for Media Literacy
    This site serves as a clearinghouse of materials to support teaching media literacy, so students can learn "to evaluate the deluge of media they face everyday."

  • PBS TeacherSource
    This rich site has over 3,500 lesson plans arranged by subject and grade level and also includes information on integrating web based lessons.

  • Web English Teacher
    Designed by an English teacher, this site offers links to unit plans, discussion questions, grading rubrics, and ideas for book report projects.

  • National Center for Education Statistics
    is the place to go if you're looking for statistics on education in the United States.

  • Hawaii's Implementation of Standards Based Education
    This DOE sponsored site offers links to performance standards developed in 1999 for language arts, math, science, social studies, fine arts, world languages, health, career and life skills, educational technology and physical education.


  • What to Expect Your First Year of Teaching
    Developed by the Department of Education, this document provides helpful information gathered from a group of 51 award winning first year teachers.

  • The Gateway to Educational Materials
    Produced by the National Library Of Education, this site provides access to lesson plans, activities, and projects. The site can be searched by subject, keyword, and by grade level.
