Nursing Resources on the Web

  • Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
    This database provides 600 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines and also features abstracts and indexing for more than 850 journals. You must use the barcode from your current KCC library card in order to access this database from off-campus.


  • PubMed
    The National Library of Medicine's search service that provides access to over 11 million citations in MEDLINE, and other health related databases. The CAM subset of PubMed covers information from different fields of alternative medicine, including diet-nutrition, mind-body interventions, bioelectromagnetic applications, manual healing, and herbal medicine.


  • CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature)
    This index covers over 1200 nursing related journals. The KCC Library also has the printed index available; please ask for assistance.


  • National Institute of Nursing Research
    The National Institute of Health offers current information on nursing research outcomes, grants, legislation affecting the nursing profession, and nursing news.


  • Hardin Meta Directory of Internet Health Sources
    This metasite from the University of Iowa Health Sciences Library provides links to subject directories for 40+ medical specialties/fields, from AIDS through Toxicology. The Nursing link leads to 34 nursing subject directories on the Web.


  • HiPHIVE (Hawaii Public Health Information Virtual Emporium)
    This well organized directory, sponsored by the Hawaii Medical Library and the UH School of Public Health, offers links to web sites for local and national health agencies, health statistics, health education, diseases & epidemiology, health legislation, public health, environmental health, health statistics, mental health, substance abuse, and nutrition .


  • Alternative Medicine Resources
    Provided by the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Library, this site is organized by types of alternative therapies, diseases and conditions, and health-related databases that contain information on alternative therapies.


  • International Association for the Study of Pain
    Provides links to resources on pain and pain management.


  • Transcultural and Multicultural Health Links
    Includes links to health profiles for different ethnic & religious groups, describing cultural practices for pregnancy & birthing, diet and food practices, communication styles, views on mental health, and views on death and dying.
