Community Facilities

The Kauai Community College Nursing Program utilizes many institutional and community based facilities for clinical instruction.  Among these are three community hospitals;  Wilcox Health Systems, a 120 bed acute and long term care facility, Mahelona Hospital, a acute psychiatric and long term care facility, and West Kauai Medical Center - KVMH, an acute and long term care facility.

Students practice at these three facilities as well as outpatient clinics, social service agencies, the Kauai CC Campus Wellness Center, preschools, home health agencies, and a myriad of community based facilities. It is the faculty's belief that in addition to hospital based education that experience in community settings will best prepare the graduate for future professional opportunities.  A real strength of the Kauai Community College Nursing Program is its focus on rural community based care in which personnel in each affiliating agency take a personal interest in assisting with the education of students.  This caring is embodied in the Hawaiian concept of "O`hana" which means family and is much more than just a word; it is a way of life.  Attending the Kauai Community College Nursing Program means that the student will in many ways be entering the O`hana of our health care community.
